What You'll Experience

Wormsloe Plantation is worth a visit if only to see the welcoming mile-long driveway lined with huge live oak trees. Located approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Savannah, the plantation was established in 1737 by Noble Jones, one of the first British colonists who arrived in Georgia with General James E. Oglethorpe. A plantation house built in 1828 stands at the site, as do the remains of the original house built by Noble.

Overlooking the banks of the Moon River marsh, the Pin Point Heritage Museum gives guests the chance to experience the unique culture and history of the Gullah/Geechee people. The Gullah are descendants of enslaved Africans who live in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina and Georgia and have a one-of-kind heritage that has played an important role in the South’s rich history.

Skidaway Island State Park is located near historic Savannah bordering the Skidaway narrows, a part of Georgia’s Intracoastal Waterway. Trails wind through maritime forest and past salt marsh, leading to a boardwalk and observation tower. Visitors can watch for deer, fiddler crabs, raccoon, egrets and other wildlife. Inside the park’s interpretive center, birders will find binoculars, reference books and a window where they can look for migrating species such as Painted Buntings. Children will especially enjoy seeing the towering, 20-foot giant ground sloth replica and reptile room.

Historic Sandfly, a neighborhood near the Isle of Hope, has quickly become one of the trendiest shopping destinations outside of Downtown Savannah. EJ Scandals, , the Norwood Market, and the Pink Door, just to mention a few, feature several unique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and gift shops that will appeal to even the pickiest of buyers.
